MapleFest
Saturday, March 16th12PM
Location: Pavillion, Grass River Center
Maple Fest is a delicious annual event that highlights the wonderful community of maple trees we have at the Grass River Natural Area. Join us as we learn to distill maple syrup from the sugar-rich sap that red and sugar maple trees produce in the early spring.
If you're interested in helping out, email the Education Director at james@grassriver.org.
Vernal Pool Monitoring - Spring
Late April - Early May (Multiple dates)
Grass River Natural Area is fiercely committed to monitoring and protecting our precious biodiversity on the property. As such, we participate in a statewide vernal pool monitoring program. This biodiversity monitoring program is also a part of our recently approved Grass River Adaptive Management Plan (GRAMP). Vernal pools are, historically, an especially difficult wetland to reliably monitor, which makes this work critical. Vernal pools are home to some of our most strange and charismatic fauna, from spotted salamanders to fairy shrimp!
This opportunity does require you to attend a training session. If you'd like to register for this volunteer opportunity, email the Conservation Director at sean@grassriver.org.
Stream Monitoring
Saturday May 11th, 8AM
Location: Shanty Creek
As part of our GRAMP, Grass River Natural Area conducts stream monitoring surveys twice a year. The spring surveys will take place across April and May. We rotate amongst the three creeks each year, and this year is Shanty Creek! This is a really cool way to better understand our watershed, and the biodiversity within it.
This opportunity does require you to attend a training session. If you'd like to register for this volunteer opportunity, email the Conservation Director at sean@grassriver.org.
Stewardship Day
Saturday 18th 9AM
Location: Grass River Center
The busy season of spring, and then summer, will soon be upon us. Come help us get everything looking good and ready for heaps of visitors! We could use your help with this and would love to see you hanging out with us on spring day.
If you'd like to sign up, please contact stewardship@grassriver.org.
